Venice FL Area Descriptions

Venice Florida, located in Sarasta County on the Gulf Coast of Florida, covers a large area and can be broken down into smaller areas and neighboring towns.

Venice is one of two cities located directly on the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida. It was designed in the 1920's as a retirement community for the brotherhood of locomotive engineers. Although it was a sleepy little town during the 30's, 40's and 50's, it was discovered by retirees in the 60's and has grown remarkably ever since .
Venice has the look and feel of a picture book small town with Venice Avenue being the main shopping street running perpendicular from US 41 to the Gulf. All faiths are represented in Venice and it is the home of the bishop of diocese for the west coast of Florida. The city is governed by a city council and has its own police and fire department independent of Sarasota county. The "island" of Venice is connected by three bridges to the mainland parts of the city. Homes in Venice have central water and sewer and flood insurance is required for homes on "the island". Prices of homes and condos in Venice FL run from $100,000 over $2,000,000.
