I was elated to hear from Mr. TPV Karunagara Raja about the unveiling of Kamarajar's Bronze statue in Alangulam.
Over 50 years ago, the same spot hosted a mud statue of Kamarajar. I had the privilege of campaigning in fromt of that statue while I was on my tour of the South.
We can confidently say that his feet stepped on every inch of this State. Even while he was rushing to fullfil his official duties, he would stop and talk to those who went past him and always checked if they were receiving the welfare schemes of the government. Such was his dedication to people.
His concern for the basic infrastructure of Tamilnadu still stands as the foundation for all that we enjoy today . He announced that power and authority can never be a single man's asset and subsequently shed his power garb and started working on the field for the people. Thus, he still stands as a shining epitome of a selfless leader.
Kamarajar stands as a stunning reflection of values like simplicity, honesty, humility, integrity, sacrifice and service.
I have mentioned on many occasions that if my father heard that Kamarajar was coming, he would tie his towel around his waist as a mark of respect.
Our family has had the privilege of hosting him in our residence. My father has worshipped his leadership. Through many pressured contradictions, he stood by Gandhiji. Iam proud to say that like Karmaveerar , Iam also a student of the streets.
Any initiative to understand, to know, to praise and to hail Kamarajar must be appreciated. it is important to take Kamarajar to the younger generation. Thats our duty.
