State Secretary Dr. Anusha Ravi voices out for Indian wrestlers!
The President of Wrestlers Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is currently a BJP Member of Parliament in Uttar Pradesh, is in the news for all wrong reasons. A team of Indian female wrestlers have accused him of continuous sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress. The wrestlers have been staging a protest in Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
A protest that started in January 2023, saw some light only after the intervention of the Supreme Court, following which, two FIRs have been filed against Brij Bhushan, out of which one has been filed under POCSO.
Resorting to sexual harassment instead of promoting the sport is tantamount to treason. Makkal Needhi Maiam extends its support to those wrestlers who are putting up a brave fight against all odds.
With a history sheet of approximately 85 cases alleged against, Brij Bhushan, delaying his arrest even after filing two FIRs seems unfair to the wrestlers.
The wrestlers demand Brij Bhushan's arrest and transparency from the Oversight Committee headed by Mary Kom. It is absolutely disheartening to see the pride of India, sitting in protest, to save their honour, instead of vigorously preparing themselves for the upcoming world championships.
Intervention of power politics should not be allowed in cases of allegations as sensitive as this. No political agenda should be allowed to play its game in the field of sports. Strict oversight authority must be made mandatory to protect those sports enthusiasts who work diligently to win glory for the country.
