Government must heed to the fishermen's request of Rs.8000 as relief fund during the fishing ban! MNM emphasises!

April, May and June are the months of breeding for sea creatures of Bay of Bengal, Mannar Gulf and Pak Straits. During this period, fishing using motorboats and tugboats are banned to enable reproduction of sea creatures. Though this is important, we should also look into the livelihood of the fishermen who have no other source of income.

The fishing ban comes into force from April 15 . As many as 15000 boats would be stationary and the fishermen would be deprived of a livelihood. In order to balance nature and livelihood, the Government has announced Rs. 6000 as relief to the fisherfolk. With the mounting inflation rate, it would be impossible to feed their families with just Rs. 6000. So, the fishermen have placed a request,to increase the relief fund to Rs. 8000.

MNM places a request to the government to heed to the request of the fishermen. In addition to that, the government must ensure financial assistance to repair and service the motorboats and fiber boats.

MNM hopes that the TN government would consider these fair requests and help our fishermen continue to have a decent livelihood.
